This is a long overdue post. Mid autumn was so long ago!
Due to various reasons, we only celebrated the festival the sunday after. Actually, it's just some lantern/candles play at a nearby park. Here are some pictures.
I spent my childhood burning lanterns and playing with candles (with no adult supervison) during Midautumn every year. I thought I'd be a gungho parent and let my kids do the same (albeit WITH adult supervision). I thought I would, at least, let them have the fun of burning their lanterns.
But... but...
I was so squeamish around the fire I didn't even manage to hang a single lantern on the tree. Needless to say, I was nagging constantly at the kids to be careful and NOT SWING their lanterns!
Also, I've become more environmentally conscious.I just thought it's not very right deliberately start a fire and risk the plants around it. Oh well...
Would you look at our handmade deer lantern? Nice hor? Hehe. Traditional lanterns are the prettiest.
Somehow, we all ended up singing the birthday song and blowing out candles. Over and over. Hah.
The kids enjoyed themselves very much. We burnt a few lanterns. Threw away the rest. Was a bit sad to part with the deer. But my mum was right. 旧的不去, 新的不来.
Till next year!
